China Doll

Description
The Chinese Shar-Pei is an alert, compact dog of medium size. They are square in profile. There are two types of Shar-Pei; one with wrinkled large heads and another with smaller heads and tighter skins.

Size
The adult Chinese Shar-Pei is 18-20 inches tall and weights 40-55 lbs.

Coat
There are three coat varieties: horse-coat, brush-coat, and a rare bear-coat. The bear-coat has an undercoat and a topcoat exceeding 1 inch. The unusual horse-coat is rough to the touch. The brush-coated has longer hair and a smoother feel.

Color
This breed comes in many different colors including: black, blue, brown, cream, fawn, red, and white.

Temperament
The Chinese Shar-Pei is a calm, confident breed of dog. They are intelligent, alert, and independent. They are also loyal to their owner. Shar-pei are good watch dogs and do well with cats and children if introduced and a young age.

Care
This breed should be brushed regularly and bath when necessary.

Exercise
Chinese Shar-Pei need a good amount of exercise but do not over do it in the heat as they are very sensitive.

Training
The Chinese Shar-Pei can be difficult to train. They need firm, consistent training. They are stubborn and bold and need obedience training to establish your leadership.

Shedding
The brush-coat sheds a little year round, but the horse-coat tends to shed only during molting periods. Some owners are allergic to the horse-coat.

Life Expectancy
A well cared for Chinese Shar-Pei can live around 10 years.

Health
Some Chinese Shar-Pei have skin and kidney health problems.
